Housed in one of Australia’s most prominent national heritage-listed buildings, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House seeks to provide a range of innovative exhibitions, tours, interpretation, education programs and public activities that will inspire and challenge visitors to explore democracy from its ancient roots to the present day and possible futures.

The Exhibitions Coordinator will play a key role in the development, delivery and maintenance of temporary and travelling exhibitions as part of the exhibitions program.

As a member of a small team, and working in conjunction with other teams within the museum, the role focuses on the development of temporary (including pop-up) exhibitions, travelling exhibitions, and exhibition changeovers.  This includes participation in management of the museum’s long term exhibitions as required.

  • Project manage all phases of development and delivery for temporary and travelling exhibitions, changeovers and smaller pop-up exhibitions. Assist with management of museum’s long term exhibitions as required.
  • Participate in matrix-team delivery of exhibition development and delivery, including for other projects and events throughout the museum.
  • Coordinating all aspects of exhibition projects including:
  • Project planning, development, contractors for design and fabrication, installation, evaluation and ongoing maintenance of exhibitions on-site, including maintaining the stock of supplies and materials;
  • Ensuring that heritage management, conservation and registration requirements are adhered to;
  • Ensure exhibition projects are developed and delivered in accordance with Commonwealth procurement processes;
  • Develop and coordinate the travelling exhibition program, including sourcing new host venues, developing the itinerary, managing the packing, transportation, installation and display for touring exhibitions;
  • Manage the application, expenditure of and acquittal for relevant grants associated with funding the travelling program;
  • Working with a range of stakeholders including internal staff, staff from other venues, external contractors, and suppliers to ensure successful delivery of exhibition components;
  • Undertaking critical evaluation of ongoing projects and implementation of necessary changes;
  • Implementation of Work Health and Safety (WHS) and risk management policies related to exhibition and event delivery; ensure installation staff and contractors comply with and appropriately use WHS standards and safe handling procedures.
