The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is Tasmania’s leading natural, cultural and heritage organisation. It is a combined museum, art gallery and herbarium with almost one million items of the State collection in its care. Position Objective

Assist with the construction, installation and de-installation of permanent and travelling exhibitions; undertake general maintenance of displays and galleries; assist in the preparation of exhibition material; and assist with the logistical aspects of exhibition delivery.

Major Duties

  • Assist in the development of permanent, temporary, and travelling exhibitions, applying professional museum practices.
  • Liaison with those involved in exhibition and display development, such as curators and designers, to prepare and assess exhibition and display options including providing technical guidance.
  • Installation and de-installation of in-house and travelling exhibitions and displays, including packing and crating. This may include use of power tools and computer and software usage.
  • Prepare exhibition material such as mount, display and model making as well as graphic preparation (mounting and trimming).
  • Ensure permanent and temporary displays are maintained in good order, including undertaking cleaning of showcases and displays as directed.
  • Provide administrative support for exhibitions including cataloguing equipment, monitoring and assisting with coordination of gallery maintenance requests and purchasing of basic equipment.
