Position Objective:
The Exhibitions Officer will assist with the construction, installation and de-installation of permanent and travelling exhibitions; undertake general maintenance of displays and galleries; assist in the preparation of exhibition material; and assist with the logistical aspects of exhibition delivery.

Major Duties:

  • Assist in the development of permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions, applying professional museum practices.
  • Liaise with Curators to prepare and assess exhibition and display options and agree on the design of exhibitions.
  • Install, mount and dismantle in-house displays, and install travelling exhibitions, including packing and crating in accordance with appropriate workplace health and safety practices. This may include use of power tools and contemporary computer and software usage.
  • Revise, edit and mount graphic and other material for permanent and temporary exhibition.
  • Prepare exhibition material including fibreglass modelling, moulds and castings, model making and dioramas.
  • Ensure permanent and temporary displays are maintained in good order, including specialist exhibition equipment and display methods such as projectors, lighting and interactive exhibits.
  • Provide administrative support for exhibitions and other public programs, including ordering and maintenance of resources and equipment, and liaison and consultation with suppliers, artists and other external and internal professionals.
  • Provide technical guidance to staff and volunteers in the maintenance and installation of exhibitions.

Scope of Work:
Responsible for the effective planning and execution of exhibitions and displays, and the maintenance of related supplies and equipment. General instructions are provided except for where there are more complex and unusual requirements.
Responsible for the proper handling of exhibition items in accordance with Workplace health and safety standards and correct museum procedures.
General daily supervision and direction received from the Exhibitions Coordinator. This position will also work closely with and receive direction from exhibition project managers. The occupant uses judgment and initiative to resolve issues and satisfy client requirements.
