Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.

The primary focus of the Family and Early Years Guest Educator is the delivery of curriculum based programmes as well as family programmes for Early Childhood and family audiences. This role will open up the learning potential of the Museum’s collections as a learning resource for the early childhood education sector and family audiences both within the Museum and in the community context.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong passion for Early Childhood Education.
  • Superb live interpretation skills with the ability to walk into a room and inspire with your confidence
  • Knowledge about contemporary learning theory and learning within a museum
  • Working knowledge and broad familiarity with current trends and events in popular culture, museums, pre-school and school
  • Familiarity with the National Curricula, Te Whariki and national assessment experience in conceptualization and implementation of group leisure programmes.
  • Experience in articulating concepts and business cases in written and oral form.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and/or
  • Excellent pronunciation of Te Reo Maori and confidence to use appropriate greetings and/or commonly understood phrases applicable to the Museum
  • An understanding of legislative requirements pertinent to the museum including the AWMM Act
  • Understanding of the principles and practice of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the implications of this for the policies and strategies of the
  • High level of written and organizational
  • A positive attitude and desire for everything that goes into intensifying the Museum’s reputation for
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced and lively organisation – which also prioritises having fun!
  • Holds a passion for dynamic museums and for working in a cross functional team environment.

You may be required to deliver programmes off-site therefore you must hold a full NZ drivers license and have a clean driving record to drive the Museum vehicles.
