ABOUT THE POSITION:

The primary responsibility of the Finance Manager will be to provide authoritative, accurate and practical expert-level advice and services in financial accounting and reporting and financial management compliance to management and other staff across the organisation.

Notable skills and experiences:

  1. Project manage End of Financial Year and Financial statement improvements / external audit issues
  2. Provide technical accounting support to the organisation by providing expert-level advice on applying accounting standards and reporting directions, identifying compliance issues and relevant responses, and implementing changes as required.
  3. Support the internal audit program and annual financial management compliance reviews through effective responses to data requests, queries and agreed management actions.
  4. Review and approve monthly payments, accounting for fixed assets and leases, accounts payable, accounts receivable, annual reconciliations and payroll tax returns, ensuring compliance and accuracy with relevant legislation.
  5. Develop, maintain and continuously improve finance policies and procedures.
  6. Provide supervision and leadership to financial accounting staff and finance operations staff.
  7. Support the Head of Finance in preparing Audit and Risk Committee and Board Papers.
  8. Coordinate and oversee the annual external audit process with the Victorian Auditor General’s Office.
  9. Develop, deliver and communicate financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  10. Coordinate the regular review and update of the chart of accounts, supervise the management of motor vehicle fleet management and support budget realignment work
  11. Comply with Museums Victoria’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.

The successful applicant will have the following attributes:

  1. Proven experience in providing timely and accurate accounts, financial accounting, and reporting services.
  2. Demonstrated experience meeting technical accounting requirements with a strong knowledge of relevant accounting standards and public sector financial reporting requirements.
  3. Sound analytical and problem-solving skills applied to business, systems and accounting scenarios and close attention to detail.
  4. High initiative and organisational skills, with a track record of providing a strong customer focus and exceeding customer expectations and organisational timelines (including supplier payment).
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in financial management systems (e.g. MS Dynamics GP) and advanced level with MS Excel.
  6. Demonstrated ability and experience in providing and communicating financial advice and information to various stakeholders.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency in management reporting systems, including developing and implementing new and improved reports.
  8. A management style that fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
