The Museum has an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join the Finance Business Unit as a Financial Accountant.
The Finance Business Unit manages all financial functions of the Museum and provides strategic advice for management on the Museum’s financial resources, supported by development and dissemination of applicable policies and procedures. The section also provides financial services to other agencies as part of the Cultural and Corporate Shared Service Centre managed by the Museum.
The key duties of the position include:
The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of activities that may include, but are not limited to:
- Leading the day to day work of the team undertaking financial processing, procurement and treasury functions and preparing returns to meet taxation requirements.
- Management of asset and inventory records, reporting and associated reconciliations.
- Managing the general ledger including compliance with accounting standards and Commonwealth requirements, processing of accruals and performing end of month reconciliations.
- Assisting with the preparation of reports required for mandatory reporting, for both internal and external stakeholders, including financial, procurement and taxation compliance.
- Monitoring the workload of the team to ensure that high volumes of work and competing priorities are managed, and internal and external deadlines are met.
- Providing accurate, appropriate and timely advice, documentation and procedures on a broad range of financial and procurement matters, including handling the more complex enquiries from clients.
- Assisting in process improvements and proactively identifying new initiatives to benefit the Museum.
There are two positions available and duties will be shared between the roles on an as-needs basis.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this vacancy, applicants must:
- be an Australian citizen
- undergo a number of pre-employment checks, which includes a police records check
- obtain and maintain a security clearance at baseline level.

- Completion or working towards completion of qualifications for eligibility into a recognised accounting body would be an advantage.
