About the Australian Museum 

The Australian Museum is located on the traditional homelands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.  The Australian Museum acknowledges the Gadigal people as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land, sky and waterways, paying respect to Elders past, present and emerging.  

The Australian Museum (AM) operates within the NSW Department of Premier & Cabinet and was founded in 1827 as the first museum in Australia. The AM provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. The AM holds more than 21 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections and develops programs, exhibitions and school and community education initiatives onsite, online and offsite. The AM’s purpose is to make nature, Indigenous cultures & science accessible and relevant to everyone. 

It’s an exciting time to work for the Australian Museum (AM) as we are closed to the public to enable our major renovation, Project Discover, and are currently redeveloping our education experience and spaces. We’re looking for a talented educator and storyteller to join our Education team to contribute to the development and delivery of key learning projects.

About the role 

The First Nations Education Project Officer will work within the Education team, and collaborate with staff in other teams (including Public Programs, Cultural Collections and Exhibitions teams) to research, develop and deliver a range of education programs for groups visiting the Museum, and to support student and teacher learning online and onsite. The successful candidate will have expertise in education program development as well as experience presenting or delivering programs for a diverse range of audiences. The First Nations Education Project Officer may also be involved with other learning projects such as the development of our new learning spaces to assist students and other visitors to engage with and expand their understanding of First Nations people and culture, science, history and knowledge.
