Museums Victoria seeks a General Manager for the Immigration Museum. The General Manager Immigration Museum is responsible for providing strategic, business and operational leadership to the Immigration Museum to deliver on Museums Victoria’s overall purpose, vision and strategy.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The General Manager Immigration Museum will have operational responsibility for the Immigration Museum and will work collaboratively with other members of the Executive Team to ensure effective and efficient operations at Immigration Museum.
This position will have primary accountability for visitation at Immigration Museum and will provide leadership to ensure high quality experiences to all visitors to the Museum and precinct ensuring that the precinct’s identity/brand is delivered in a way that is consistent with the vision for Museums Victoria; and contributes to the Museum being regarded as a leading cultural, educational and tourism destination.
Notable skills and experiences:
- Broad, multi-disciplinary organisational leadership experience, including a track record of achievement in the development and management of a major cultural or tourist attraction.
- Tertiary qualification in business, management or museum-related discipline.
- A high level of expertise relevant to the management of a large museum and a sound understanding of contemporary trends in cultural institutions and The Museum sector.
- Deep connections to Victorian or Australian multi-cultural communities
- Ability to build strong cross-functional and external stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to seek and secure new opportunities that support Museums Victoria’s strategic directions.
- Demonstrated understanding of the contemporary use of technology in museums, including, marketing, brand positioning, education and community programs, and exhibition development and visitor engagement.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage large and complex projects within agreed budgets and timeframes and to lead complex negotiations within a commercial framework.
- Ability to provide high level strategic advice and contribute to Executive Team, and support the CEO, Board and relevant committees.
- Integrity, maturity and strong personal and business ethics combined with sound judgement and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
