Sovereign Hill is a dynamic group of museums presenting the mining, social, cultural and environmental heritage of the Ballarat region and its impact on Australia’s history.
The Coachbuilding/Wheelwrighting team builds and maintains all of Sovereign Hill’s horse-drawn vehicles, and restores and manufactures period pieces for the museum and external customers. It ensures that all coaches used for transporting visitors throughout Sovereign Hill are fit for purpose.
In this costumed role you will be responsible for making and maintaining harness equipment used on Sovereign Hills horse-drawn vehicles and riding horses, and leatherwork projects relevant to Sovereign Hill’s functions.
To be successful in this position you must have:
- At least 5 years’ experience working with horses and maintaining harness
- Previous experience in harness repairs, manufacturing and/or leatherwork
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated awareness of OHS requirements when using tools and machinery
- The ability to work across a flexible roster including weekends, public holidays and school holidays
Previous experience within a trade, manufacturing, tourism or customer service environment along with presenting, public speaking and/or interpreting experience would be highly regarded.
