The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based museum organisation that collects, researches and interprets the heritage of the goldrushes and the Ballarat region. The organisation includes Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool.
We are looking for a Harness Maker to join our Coachbuilding and Wheelwrights team.. If you have a passion for crafts and rare trades this role could be for you!
The Harness Maker is responsible for making and maintaining harness used for Sovereign Hill horse-drawn vehicles and horses. There are also leatherwork projects relevant to Sovereign Hill operations.
The successful applicant must have:
- At least 5 years’ experience working with horses and maintaining harness is essential
- Previous experience in harness repairs, manufacturing and/or leatherwork is essential
- Teaching/mentoring, presenting, public speaking and/or interpreting experience is preferred but not essential
- Previous experience within the leather trade, manufacturing and tourism or customer service environment would be highly regarded
- Accreditation/endorsement by the Saddlers and Harness Makers Association of Australia would be highly regarded
- Good customer service skills
- Excellent verbal communications skills
- A demonstrated awareness of OHS requirements when using tooling and machinery
- Ability to work across flexible rosters including weekends, public holidays and school holidays
Qualifications and Checks:
- A relevant qualification in working with leather or equivalent industry experience preferred
- Police Check
- Employee Working with Children’s Check
- Fully Covid vaccinated by 29 November 2021
- Current Australian Driver’s License
- Pre-Employment medical check
