As Head, Collection Services you will provide overall leadership and management of the Collection Services section, including personnel and financial management, strategic planning and project management. You will oversee the day to day operations of the section, which include; collection management (registration and movement), conservation, loans and acquisitions and related documentation.

The Memorial’s conservation labs in our Mitchell warehouse are world class, and some of the objects and materials the teams conserve are unique and irreplaceable.

The movement and registration of objects, including some of our Large Technology Objects, can also be a unique and challenging responsibility, for which you would be accountable.
You will also manage major projects and programs and contribute to the work of the Memorial as a whole by working closely with other members of the Senior Management Group.

Note:

  • You would be expected to have tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or extensive experience in a related work area.
  • This is a security assessed position, the occupant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 clearance
  • The occupant of this position also requires a “Working with Vulnerable People Registration”.

Responsibilities:

Under broad direction, provide leadership focused on security, management and conservation of the National Collection, including:

  • Lead and manage change, analyse performance and take responsibility for continuous improvement in service delivery;
  • Providing strong and innovative leadership to the staff, expertise in the management of a complex business unit, building teamwork and productive relationships and encouraging initiative and personal and team accountability;
  • Recommending and implementing approved sectional priorities, programs, projects, budgets, business plans and prepare higher level documents, papers and correspondence;
  • Ensuring that the National Collection is managed and conserved to appropriate professional standards;
  • Ensuring the safety and security of the National Collection.
  • Demonstrating a high level of ethical standards and integrity, ensuring that the team leadership and management is consistent with the Memorial’s value and goals, delivering the section’s responsibilities in relation to the Memorial’s Business Plan and Corporate Strategic Plan.

Inspire and lead a team to be focused on organisational goals, and delivering business outcomes; accountable for developing, coaching and mentoring employees, performance management, conflict resolution and identification of training needs.

Working collaboratively with Memorial sections to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders that will benefit the Memorial and its programs.

Build, develop and implement policies, strategies, systems and standards for the development, management and use of the collection; develop corporate plans and priorities and advising senior management, Council and Government on relevant matters; perform functions and exercise powers provided by legislative or administrative appointment or delegation.

Abide by and promote the principles and practices of Work Health and Safety as outlined in the WHS Act, taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and ensuring that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons.
