Are you a leader within the field of collections care? We are looking for a driven and passionate Head, Collections Care who can deliver strategic objectives within this specialised field. You will be leading a diverse, professional and dynamic team that supports MHNSW to achieve its goals.
What the opportunity is:
- Employment with Museums of History NSW, NSW Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade.
- Clerk Grade 11/12 – $173,865. Package includes salary ($134,411 – $155,445), employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
- Full-time ongoing employment
- The role will work across the Sydney area with occasional regional travel.
What we do
MHNSW brings together the museums, historic houses and associated collections previously in the care of Sydney Living Museums with the vast collection of more than 14 million items held by the former NSW State Archives. This includes one of the world’s most complete and important collections documenting colonisation.
What you’ll do with us
This role oversees and provides strategic advice and management of collections care and conservation for Museums of History NSW’s collections to maximise their accessibility and care.

What the essential requirements of the role are
- At least 5 years experience in collections care and/or conservation and tertiary qualifications in cultural heritage management, especially in collection care, management and conservation.
- Experience in applying conservation techniques, collection management and practices.
- Ability to work within the Museums of History NSW Act, 2022, State Records Act 1998 and relevant heritage legislation and policies.
- Knowledge and implementation of Workplace Health and Safety and safe manual handling practices.
- Ability to complete manual work, manage lifting, carrying, kneeling and moving around large sites is a genuine occupational requirement.
- A current NSW driver’s licence or the ability to travel between locations.
