Position Description

The Australian War Memorial personally and powerfully commemorates the role Australian service men and women have played in diverse theatres of war and operations over more than a century. The Memorial is a special place, being the heart of the nation for veterans, Defence service personnel and all Australians to remember and understand the Australian experience of war and its enduring impact on Australian society.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced and demanding role that requires experience within all aspects of communications and marketing. Exceptional writing, strong media relations, innovative delivery and excellent stakeholder engagement are key. You will work closely with the Director, Branch Head of Public Programs and the senior management team to deliver an integrated marketing communications strategy. This position requires professional and proven leadership experience across all marketing and communications functions. These include: public affairs, online engagement, branding, development of sponsorships and partnerships, loyalty (Friends of the Memorial) and CRM programs.

As Head of the Communications and Marketing Section you will provide leadership for all the Memorial’s marketing and communications activities both nationally and internationally. You will lead a small diverse team in positioning the Memorial as the commemorative heart of the nation during a significant commemorative period including the Anzac Centenary. This position requires a highly effective person to identify and develop public relations and integrated marketing opportunities leveraging partnerships and networks within the tourism and communication industries, ensuring the Memorial’s high public profile is maintained.
