The Museum has an exciting opportunity for an experienced digital innovation professional, who is a demonstrated high achiever in the cultural or commercial sector, to join the Public Engagement Division to lead the newly established Digital Innovation and Blockchain Project.

The role is responsible for the Digital Innovation and Blockchain Project, establishing the strategic framework for the adoption of blockchain technologies to enable greater collection access for Museum audiences; and the development of authenticated digitised tokens related to the Museum’s National Historical Collection.

The Digital Innovation and Blockchain Project includes the development of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as a proof of concept, as the Museum works towards comprehensive digitisation of its National Historical Collection.

The position is responsible for overseeing and establishing a strategic and business framework for blockchain technologies at the Museum. It is responsible for the execution of a major pilot program to assist the Museum in achieving its strategic goals of embracing digital futures, increasing brand recognition, extending the Museum’s business base, developing and building collections for the 21st century and engaging with new and existing audiences, digitally. The position will be responsible for the full scope of the project including governance, business planning, creative production, reporting, stakeholder management, staff management, compliance and contracting.

Externally, the position will work closely with highly specialised external service providers; and internally, will lead the project team comprised of team members from a range of cultural, digital and governance areas. High level leadership and management skills are essential. This position will work closely with the Museum’s Executive Team and the Museum Council’s Digital Strategy Forum, ensuring that alignment with strategic goals is central to the delivery of the program.

What will the successful candidate bring to the role?

The successful candidate will have an extensive and successful career in project management, change management and in leading specialist professional teams.

They will have a proven track record of developing and implementing strategies that lead to sustainable levels of public engagement and revenue generation.  The successful applicant will have a sound understanding of emerging digital technologies, notably blockchain technology, and how these market innovations can provide opportunities for museums and the cultural sector.

The successful candidate will have proven management experience in delivering highly innovative project work that requires simultaneous coordination of multiple work streams, delivering high quality outputs.

They will have proven management experience and the ability to lead, coach and mentor staff to achieve corporate objectives, including financial outcomes. Business commercial acumen and entrepreneurial nous combined with the capacity to quickly respond will be highly regarded.

A capacity to build and sustain strong networks and relationships is critical to success, as well as a proven capacity to understand and clearly communicate complex issues, in a comprehensible and carefully considered manner, for existing and new audiences.
