The Head of Exhibitions will bring vision and leadership to the development and management of the Memorial’s exhibitions program. The program includes the development and maintenance of over 10,000sqm permanent exhibitions and galleries, a special exhibition program delivering high quality and wide ranging temporary displays, and a modest outreach program of touring exhibitions. The Head of Exhibitions also plays a lead role in major gallery redevelopment projects and has responsibility for all aspects of the development and implementation of exhibition, audio-visual and building works related to such projects. This will include management and revision of the Gallery Masterplan for the Memorial.

  • The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage the Memorial’s permanent, temporary and touring exhibitions program through well-developed business plans, budgets and section representation, leadership of the section and cooperation with other sections.
  • Project manage the development and implementation of exhibition and building works related to exhibition development, including:
    1. development and management of the project process and planning the forward schedule;
    2. section funding, funding sources, budgets and procurement plan;
    3. oversight and effective guidance of curatorial, historical, conservation, visitor evaluation and research and building matters relevant to the developments;
    4. management of relevant external consultancies and stakeholders;
    5. provision of high quality and professional advice to senior management, Council, Government and Parliament;
    6. written preparation of high level documents, papers, correspondence and reports.
  • Provide strategic advice on the design and development of exhibitions and displays to the Assistant Director, Public Programs, the Corporate Management Group and the Memorial’s Council.
  • Effectively cooperate with other sections and senior management in providing advice and guidance on exhibition development for the effective and timely delivery of exhibition projects.
  • Develop and foster close liaison with other areas of the Memorial, and other external organisations, stakeholders, kindred institutions, government agencies and individuals regarding the Memorial’s permanent, temporary and touring exhibitions program.
  • Effectively manage and/or contribute to the development of funding submissions, sponsorship proposals and other funding-related proposals related to the exhibitions program.
