As the nation’s only Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, we are seeking a talented and experienced Communications professional to lead our integrated Communications Team playing an active role in our Senior Management Team.

Responsible for developing and implementing strategic annual communications plans to ensure effective marketing and visitation across all MAAS sites.

The Museum’s focus on creativity, ideas and innovation as well as engagement with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) through its core disciplines, collections, programs and research has seen MAAS rapidly establish a reputation for the delivery of high quality public engagement initiatives that sit at the nexus of art and science for people of all ages across our current sites: The Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, Sydney Observatory in The Rocks and the Museums Discovery Centre in Castle Hill as we plan for the Museum’s long term future.

As the Head of Communications, you are responsible for building the reputation of MAAS and driving visitation across all sites in outreach and digital, to increase audience, profile and commercial returns. Bringing a solid track record in issues management, digital skills and stakeholder advocacy, as the leader of a busy office you should inspire the team by example.

This will include preparing and implementing strategic annual communications plans for exhibitions, events, and public programs to achieve visitor targets across all market segments including Adults, Education, Families and the tourism market. In addition, you will work with stakeholders to be the brand champion for all MAAS communication and manage external contractor relationships for PR and tourism and design services, including the preparation of government and media briefs, contracts and management of a small team. Your role also involves developing and delivering multi-platform communications activities ensuring integration of campaigns and messages across online and traditional media platforms.
