MAAS currently operates three sites, the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, Sydney Observatory in Millers Point and Museums Discovery Centre in Castle Hill. In April 2018, the NSW Government announced the largest investment in museum infrastructure in Australia’s history, which will enable MAAS to expand its operations, and will ensure the Museum and its collection remain a critical part of our local and global communities for centuries to come.
The opportunity
As the Head of Development at the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences, you will lead a small team to develop fundraising campaigns and events to support the new museum project and a diverse range of impactful programs. Reporting to the Director of Communications and External Affairs and as a member of the Museum’s leadership team, you will collaborate widely across the organisation and contribute to strategic and business planning activities.
Day to day you will:
- Lead a small Development team across memberships, events, sponsorship and partnerships.
- Participate in the overall planning and execution of a comprehensive capital campaign for the Museum.
- Negotiate sponsorship funding opportunities and develop partnerships and relationships with diverse organisations.
- Manage fundraising campaigns and develop compelling proposals; manage events associated with exhibition launches and fundraising events.
- Develop, implement and enhance policy, ethical standards and procedures associated with Museum funds development activity, including responsibility for ensuring that all risk management and governance requirements are in place and met.
- Develop and continually update revenue forecasts and fund raising results/effectiveness reports.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Proven ability in fundraising for arts/cultural, not for profit or commercial sector.
- Highly developed research, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong advocacy and representation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and meet strict deadlines.
- Experience in managing stakeholder events and major exhibition launches.
- Experience in high level networking and liaison with trustees, donors and corporate partners
