Auckland Museum is at an exciting time of development and renewal and is looking for an outstanding individual to help it take the next step in its digital transformation journey. The Head of Digital Experience will shape and lead the implementation of an ambitious digital strategy and the management of a related programme of work. Innovation, collaboration and industry know-how are at the heart of this role.

It is a role that requires a high level of focus and highly effective management skills. As Head of Digital Experience, you will utilise your extensive background in a comparable sector to ensure all of the Museum’s digital experiences, content and learning resources are purposeful, meaningful and delight our audiences – both at the Museum and beyond the walls. You will be someone with relevant industry connections and proven experience of working with third parties.

Reporting to the Director Public Experience and leading a Digital Experience team, you will work cross-functionally to drive the implementation of our exciting digital strategy. Key relationships include with the senior managers in Public Experience, Brand & Customer Engagement, Collections Care and Research, ICT and People & Organisation to name a few.

If you can bring an ‘audience first approach’ to digital and if you are able to demonstrate that you have galvanised others to deliver content, experiences and resources that inspire deep engagement and active participation, then this is the job for you.

The successful candidate will be a positive player in our diverse organisation and will champion an inclusive approach to digital, identifying and overcoming barriers to participation for all audiences.

The successful candidate will have:

  • At least eight years’ experience in driving digital strategy, creating engaging content and experiences and delivering projects
  • Wide industry connections, able to work with third parties and with some commercial experience, ideally.
  • A proven history of creating, leading and managing high performing teams
  • A proven track record in working cross-functionally and managing matrix teams
  • Enthusiasm and passion for customers, new technologies, editorial strategy and digital content production with demonstrated experience in project delivery
  • Desire to work in and passionate about the potential of a dynamic museum in a changing city
