Auckland Museum is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader to take up the newly-established role of Head of Documentary Heritage. This permanent position will lead the team of curators and collection managers who develop, manage and provide access to the Museum’s significant documentary heritage collections including books, serials, maps, ephemera, paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, manuscripts, oral histories and archives. To be successful in this new role, you will ideally offer:
- A postgraduate qualification in a field relevant to the Museum’s collections or practice
- A Library qualification or certification
- 10 years’ specialised work experience in libraries or archives, or potentially museum
collections, or a closely related field - Experience in the development, management and care of collected heritage materials
- Broad knowledge of New Zealand history and cultures and/or natural sciences
- Thorough knowledge of current developments in digital technologies as they relate to online service provision, collection access and digital collecting
- Demonstrated ability to strategically analyse contemporary research and future trends of documentary heritage collections
- Demonstrated experience as a team-player and in successfully managing people, resources and projects in a multi-disciplinary organisation
- Experience in the development and monitoring of operational budgets
- The ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, holidays and/or weekends as required
- Should hold a current and full drivers licence
