Seeking a meaningful role in a for-purpose organisation that contributes to powerful storytelling to our visitors through creating new events and program innovation?  Read on.

The Head of Events and Program Innovation is helping to shape the visitor experience at Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum.  This is a senior leadership role where you will work across the organisation and with external partners to develop new experiences and evolve existing offerings to create impact for our visitors.

The role reports to, and collaborates closely with, the Chief Operations Officer to optimise major large-scale on-site events.  This involves overseeing the pre-planning, operations, budgeting and logistics of events for the living museum. Communication and coordination across museum functions is a critical component of the role.

The role will also oversee the evolution of the core and seasonal program elements.  The role will drive the newly introduced Creative Program Design Panel, that will be responsible for designing new programs and enhancing existing programs to continuously evolve the visitor experience, to drive more reasons to visit more often and developing new commercial offerings that generate second gate revenue.

To be successful in the role, applicants will need to demonstrate prior experience in a similar role within the events management sector. Additionally:

  • Extensive experience in the development and delivery of events programs, including management of time, cost, quality, resources and risk, with outstanding performance results.
  • Experience developing an events strategy that evolves future offerings and uses research and benchmarking to shape recommendations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of project management methodologies, and experience implementing project management tools to plan, manage and report on inter-connected events, schedules, budgets and resources.
  • Some commercial experience, including demonstrated experience in negotiation and contract initiation and management.
  • Able to use internal data and external insights to identify and respond to events trends and drivers.
  • Sound communications and leadership skills and the ability to motivate, train and support staff to work as a team to achieve event and program outcomes.
