About the agency
SLM cares for 12 of the State’s most important historic houses, museums and their collections: Elizabeth Bay House, Elizabeth Farm, Hyde Park Barracks Museum, Justice & Police Museum, Meroogal, The Mint, Museum of Sydney, Rose Seidler House, Rouse Hill House & Farm, Susannah Place Museum and Vaucluse House and Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection. All are listed in the NSW State Heritage Register. The Museum of Sydney and the Hyde Park Barracks are on the National Heritage list, with the Hyde Park Barracks is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

About the role
Lead the development and delivery of a multi-sited program of cultural and learning experiences with the aim of deepening visitor engagement, building self-generated revenue and enhancing brand profile for Sydney Living Museums.

Essential requirements the role holder needs:

  • Qualifications or extensive experience in visitor engagement through public programs and/or education and/or digital in a multi-faceted cultural environment.
  • Record of managing successful, innovative visitor experience and engagement programs at a whole of organisation scale in a competitive environment, firmly grounded in curatorial and heritage values.
  • Proven skills in developing, managing, delivering and evaluating content rich and creative experiences from large scale festivals, talks, education programs to community events and collaborations for a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience in developing sustainable programs for culture and heritage sites.
  • Proven senior experience in a complex organisation and the ability to interact effectively with multiple and diverse stakeholders, including government, business, donors and the wider community to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and confidence in preparing and delivering compelling presentations, pitches, proposals and funding applications.
  • Excellent numeracy skills and the ability to analyse and prepare budgets and forecasts.
  • Time management, analytic and problem solving skills and the ability manage multiple projects with competing timelines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and booking systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and on an independent basis.
  • Passion to make a positive impact in the community and a willingness to work within Sydney Living Museum’s values and behaviours to advance its mission.
