Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Head, First Peoples to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the First Peoples department through effective and efficient delivery of service, application of specialist knowledge, resolution of complex issues and effective risk management.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Director of Research & Collections division, this position is accountable for leading, developing and advocating Museums Victoria’s strategic plan for First Peoples’ living cultures, histories and knowledge to be at the core of Museums Victoria’s practice.
The successful applicant will have:
- Expert knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society, including Aboriginal history in South Eastern Australia, demonstrated through high-level specialist knowledge and experience partnering with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as well as Government and key stakeholders.
- Experience providing strategic leadership and management of research, collection development, collection management and public engagement programs, including development of associated policies, plans and initiatives.
- Broad, multi-disciplinary strategic organisational leadership experience, including a track record of achievement in the development and management of major cultural projects.
- High level communication skills with the ability to persuasively convey the organisation’s vision, mission and values to diverse groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community leaders, key internal and external stakeholders and Government.
- Proven experiences and success providing professional support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly related to areas associated with employment, personal and career development.
