The key duties of the position include:
Reporting to the Assistance Director and Chief Experience Officer you will be responsible developing and delivering the museum’s knowledge strategies, policies and operational practices together with providing high-level advice to the Museum’s Executive, Council, Government and other relevant stakeholders as required.
The strategic role will lead on establishing and maintaining relationships that promote the museum’s knowledge in key areas together with the following:
- Collaborate with the senior executive team and museum colleagues to develop and agree on a 5-year Knowledge plan and program strategy
- Develop and expand the museum’s profile as the national and international leader in maritime heritage
- Lead the Knowledge team through a change program that prioritises digital provision of knowledge and engagement
- Work with the Assistant Director/CXO and actively participate in museum program commissioning and review processes to ensure program and activation activities are strategically aligned
- Work closely with the Exhibitions and Collections, Education, Digital and Site Activation sections to support our Brand promise
- Manage the Knowledge section budget, and oversee contractual agreements with suppliers, artists and Government and Non-Government organisations
- Maintain and develop relationships with donors
- Initiate, build and retain strategic partnerships across the history, arts, heritage and museum sector
The ideal candidate will have:
- Postgraduate qualification one of the museum’s core knowledge areas (ocean science and technology, migration studies, Indigenous culture, Australian history, maritime archaeology)
- Demonstrated track record of significant achievement in research and its application within a modern public engagement environment
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading and motivating multi-disciplinary research and curatorial teams
- Sound commercial acumen, financial management and business development experience, ideally in the cultural or heritage sector
- An ability to efficiently obtain and strategically analyse and interpret data about the museum’s past, current and potential future audiences,
- Proven project management experience including development of successful business cases and grant/sponsorship proposals.
