Position Description
The Head of Learning Services and Community Outreach leads and manages the Museum’s education, public and community outreach programs ranging from facilitated school visits and curriculum resource programs, to family and adult programming and community engagement through progressive lifelong learning strategies. Specifically the role is responsible for:
- conceptualising learning and community outreach programs in accordance with the Museum’s strategic directions and other Australian Government initiatives, including an emerging Australian Curriculum and the implementation of digital learning.
- leading and overseeing the successful delivery of lifelong-related education, public and community outreach programs and events to support and interpret exhibitions, research programs and the National Historical Collection.
developing and building alliances and partnerships with relevant Education Departments and schools, and public programs and community outreach-related external organisations. - developing and implementing opportunities to embed an education focus across all aspects of the Museum’s business.
developing the skills and capabilities of the Business Unit and ensuring sufficient supervision, instruction and equipment to enable staff to perform their duties safely. - managing the Business Unit budget and staff resources
- The National Museum of Australia is looking for a dynamic, creative, visitor-centred, lifelong learning leader to head up its Learning Services and Community Outreach Business Unit. The Museum currently runs a strong suite of programming for children and adults at its Acton site, and has an ambition to both maintain and increase these offerings while also looking to broaden its outreach opportunities – both national and internally. The successful applicant will be someone who can help to shape and give life to these ambitions.
