A catalyst for creative expression and curious minds.

Embodying the best of design ingenuity and innovation, the Museum profiles one of the world’s great collections and is a highly successful interdisciplinary institution that sits at the intersection of the arts, design, science and technology and plays a critical role in supporting the brand and vision of the city.

Access to the Museum’s exceptional collection is a cornerstone of the vision, opening up opportunities for engagement, participation and research. Deepening audience engagement, bringing the collections to life through hands on experiences and offering a variety of pathways through ideas and information is key to the delivery of our programs for people of all ages across our three sites: the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo, Sydney Observatory in The Rocks and the Museums Discovery Centre in Castle Hill.

You will be joining MAAS at an exciting time; planning is underway for a brand new site on the banks of the Parramatta River with the aim of opening in 2022. The Head of Production will play a major role in the design and exhibition programming of this fit for purpose museum. This represents a once in a generation opportunity to develop a twenty first century museum that responds to growth, and the changing shape of Sydney, and to contemporary methods of content delivery, learning and collaboration.

The Production team is responsible for the overall exhibition program including forward programming, exhibition development, production and installation, design, editorial and production inclusive of internally developed exhibitions and displays, touring exhibitions, major installations, visible collection storage, permanent galleries, and event and experiential projects.

Possessing strong museum exhibition experience, the Head of Production will provide leadership and direction to the development, production and delivery of all aspects of MAAS exhibitions, commissions, projects and related content for presentation at its campuses and to tour within Australia and overseas. You will recommend, develop and evaluate policies, procedures and operational plans pertaining to production and set direction and overall long and short term priorities for the production team.  Flexible and adept at working collaboratively with internal and external partners, you will be working across all our physical sites and also regionally.

As part of the Senior Management Team you will exemplify strong leadership and a commitment to an interdisciplinary culture, contributing to all Museum initiatives that ensure we are a leading museum of Applied Arts & Sciences.
