Head, World Science Festival Brisbane & Events
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced events and festival leader to drive the vision, and delivery of public programs and projects across Queensland Museum Network including the World Science Festival Brisbane (WSFB) to the highest artistic and technical standards. This role has a significant impact on the reputation of the Queensland Museum Network and the Queensland Government for the successful delivery of WSFB and Queensland Museum Network events and public programming across all campuses. The role reports directly to the Director, Public Engagement and will lead and manage the Queensland Museum Network events (including technical staff, producers, volunteers and project assistants). It is accountable for the effective management and delivery, on budget, of a dynamic, accessible and inspiring festival and the public program of events.
The Queensland Museum Network has staged the World Science Festival Brisbane since March 2016. It is the only city in the world besides New York to host this annual event. This is a significant accomplishment for Brisbane and Queensland. WSFB features a suite of innovative programs showcasing groundbreaking scientific research alongside content direct from the New York festival.
The World Science Festival (WSF NY) is a production of the Science Festival Foundation, a non-profit organisation in New York City. The Foundation’s mission is to cultivate a general public informed by science, inspired by its wonder, convinced of its value, and prepared to engage with its implications for the future.
QMN delivers a large number of events across the year that range from conferences highlighting our collections and research to public events, to media launches, free performances and holiday programming.
In 2017-18, QMN had a visitation of over 2.4 million visitors across the network with 2.1 million visitors at Queensland Museum. There was more than 4,600 talks, seminars and lectures delivered to public and specialist audiences and over 10,000 people attended our popular Night at the Museum and After Dark programs.
