Marking one of the most significant private cultural infrastructure investments in Australia in recent years, Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) has unveiled a major new wing.

Following four years of construction, the $100 million expansion, has been developed primarily to house Elektra, a monumental new work by German artist Anselm Kiefer.

MONA founder David Walsh announced the opening in a blog post dated 19 December, candidly detailing how the project grew well beyond its original scope and budget.
