The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based museum organisation that collects, researches and interprets the heritage of the goldrushes and the Ballarat region. The organisation includes Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool.

We are seeking a Horticulture Apprentice to be based at our onsite Museum. If you enjoy a ‘hands on’ role and working in a diverse environment this could be the role for you.

A Horticulture Traineeship is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the gardens and landscape work across the Sovereign Hill Museums Association.  A combination of onsite and offsite training will be required to complete the traineeship.

To be successful applicant must have:

  • Basic knowledge of garden terminology is preferred but not essential
  • Possess a genuine interest in gardening
  • Good commination skills to ensure a safe working environment
  • Have self-motivation and have the ability to work with minimum guidance
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to do tasks within a time frame
  • A demonstrated awareness of OHS requirements when using tooling and machinery
  • Ability to work across flexible rosters including weekends, public holidays and school holidays

First-year apprentice is classified as 75% of Sovereign Hill EBA Level 7 undertaking a 4 year course in accordance with legislation requirements.
