Sovereign Hill is a dynamic group of museums presenting the mining, social, cultural and environmental heritage of the Ballarat region and its impact on Australia’s history.
Our Gardening Department is responsible for landscaping and maintaining the entire gardens for The Sovereign Hill Museums Association. Landscaping within the outdoor museum needs to ensure historical accuracy of the 1850s as much as possible and includes several vegetable gardens. Landscaping and gardening maintenance for the Sovereign Hill Hotel, Gold Museum and all surrounding carparks is also an important role for the team. Many photographs have been and continue to be taken of our gardens.
In this position you will undertake a Horticulture Traineeship whist assisting the Gardening team undertake its core function within the museum. You will learn through a combination of onsite and offsite training to complete the traineeship.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have basic knowledge of garden terminology however it’s not essential
- Possess a genuine interest in gardening
- Be able and willing to undertake and complete an traineeship
- Have an awareness of OHS when using tools and machinery
- Have good communication skills
- Be a team player
