Located in Ballarat, Sovereign Hill Museums Association Ltd is a member-based non-profit organisation with a workforce of over 500 staff and volunteers. The Association runs museum and education programs, including at our Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum and Narmbool, a sustainability-focused pastoral property. The interpretive focus is to use Australia’s rich history to educate and provoke visitor thinking.

Having recently celebrated its 50th Birthday and with a bold Master Plan underway, the organisation is entering an exciting phase and is seeking expressions of interest from experienced individuals with the knowledge, passion, entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to serve as an independent voluntary Director on its skills-based Board.

Our Board members provide strategic direction and governance to the organisation and, together with the Executive, represent Sovereign Hill to its many and varied stakeholders. The Board also has carriage for the oversight of the delivery of our visionary Master Plan.  More information can be found sovereignhill.com.au/master-plan-phase-1.

The Board is elected by the members, and a Board recruitment process selects candidates for nomination to the members at the Annual General Meeting in October.  Board positions are voluntary and require a commitment to attend bi-monthly Board meetings, some events at the museum and be involved in a sub-committee.

Expressions of interest are sought from suitably qualified and experienced professionals who demonstrate knowledge, skills and experience in at least one of the following:

  • Business acumen
  • Strategic HR
  • Strategic IT
  • Experience with large scale sustainability initiatives
  • Museum industry
  • Tourism industry
  • Agriculture industry

We also expect Board Directors to display, at a minimum, the following attributes:

This is a unique opportunity for accomplished professionals to help drive the strategic direction of a nationally acclaimed museum, education and tourism destination.
