The scale of the CSIRO cuts has stirred fresh concern about a research landscape that seems to drift from one fix to the next.

There are two worrying aspects to the latest round of mass sackings at the CSIRO. One is the sheer scale of them: around 350 jobs are to be cut, on top of around 800 since 2023.
