The National Museum of Australia has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic professional to join the Public Engagement Division as the Inventory Coordinator (retail). This position contributes to the success of the Retail team within the Commercial Operations and Tourism business unit.

The Museum requires a highly organised and efficient person who will work towards the delivery of a highly efficient and proactive stock management system, contributing to sales performance and visitor experience.

The Inventory Coordinator (retail) is responsible for managing the retail and exhibition stock inventory from arrival at the Museum to the shop floor and online or external sales (wholesale, internal sale). This involves managing relevant databases, reporting on stock performance, and coordinating stocktakes. Other responsibilities include a proactive approach to the coordination of stock replenishment, ensuring stock levels are consistently maintained; coordination of the dispatch of wholesale and online sales orders; generation of stock and supplier reports; updating inventory databases; and liaising with stock suppliers. They will be integral to the success of our dedicated exhibition shop during blockbuster periods.

The Inventory Coordinator (retail) will develop and contribute to effective relationships, collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders. The Inventory Coordinator (retail) is responsible for the management of one direct report, and works closely with the Retail Team Leader and Retail Manager. They also work closely with the Finance team on stock reporting.

The key duties of the position include:

The successful candidate will bring to the Museum sound knowledge of inventory management across multiple sites, including online retail and stores. This includes generating periodic stock reports, entering stock and processing invoices, reporting on stock level, damages and supplier returns as well as keeping accurate records and stock notes.

You will have experience working within sound Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) practices in relation to stock movement and stores management, providing manual handling training and undertaking regular physical tasks including packing and unpacking of stock, lifting, pushing and pulling.

With experience coordinating a regular and compliant stocktake, you will also manage a stock replenishment strategy, order processing for external clients, and will be responsible for selling and fulfilling wholesale orders. This will ensure the smooth operation and high performance of inventory management, contributing to broader success of the retail operation.

With one direct report, your duties include management of leave, workplace performance conversations, recruiting and onboarding of casual staff during exhibitions, staff inductions and WHS compliance.

You will enjoy working in a busy, fast-paced environment, be adaptable to change and work to a range of key performance indicators (KPIs). You will need to effectively communicate and monitor these KPIs with the team and report to the Retail Manager, and support the business unit as required.
