An exciting kōwhiringa/opportunity has arisen at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa (Te Papa). Te Papa has received funding from the Lottery Grants Fund to conduct a project to make significant and rapid progress in preserving and making accessible to the public the Spencer Digby – Ronald D. Woolf photographic collection of over 250,000 negatives. We need a photographs conservator to help with this work.

This is a full-time, twelve-month opportunity reporting to the Manager Collection Care Practice. The role is responsible for analysing and identifying the film base composition of a portion of the Digby-Woolf collection using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR). You’ll also conduct assessments, assist with rehousing items from the Digby-Woolf collection and complete conservation documentation using our collection management database system, KE EMu. You’ll be part of a project team that includes a Senior Imaging Technician and three Imaging Technicians, and you’ll also work closely with Te Papa’s Kaitiaki Taonga Collection Manager of photography collections.

The starting salary for this position will be between $66,000 to $79,000 pa. Offers will be made within the range in accordance with the skills and experience offered by the candidate and those required of the role, and relativities with others in a comparable role in the band.
