KAITUHI MĀORI │ MĀORI WRITER

Are you an experienced reo Māori writer and translator? Do you want to work at Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum?

You’ll join Te Papa’s Writing Team – we’re creative, hard-working, and eager to promote te reo Māori. You’ll produce engaging Māori text for exhibitions and other cross-platform content – to meet audience needs, encourage language revitalisation, and support understanding of concepts.

The writing you’ll do will encompass translating English text; writing Māori text in parallel to English; writing in Māori first and supporting translation into English; and working alongside iwi and other community members to create content. You’ll also help maintain Māori-language policy and practices in the museum.

Complete fluency in te reo Māori is essential. Experience in writing, translation, and publishing processes is required too. We’re looking for a writer who’s positive and proactive, committed to excellence, audience-focused, and able to work to tight deadlines. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

The salary range for this position is $66,761 to $91,796. Offers will be made within the range to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidate and those required of the role, and internal relativities with other employees.
