Tāmaki Paenga Hira: Tui tui hono tangata, whenua me te moana.

Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections, and to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, events and educational programmes.

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated Associate Curator of Botany (fixed term appointment for four years) to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. You will work closely with the Curator of Botany to develop the Botany collection, support the strategic decisions in collection management, improve the quality of the collection information, support and undertake collection-related research, contribute to the development of exhibitions and public programmes, and answer public and professional enquiries.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant postgraduate degree or equivalent experience; PhD desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and/or undertake collection-related research.
  • Demonstrated experience in collection development projects in a herbarium.
  • Demonstrated understanding, vision and commitment to plant collections and their interpretive value, and as a core resource for museum-based research.
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing to the development of, and provision of accurate content for, online collections, public programmes and exhibitions.
  • An understanding of the principles and practice of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the implications of this for the work of the museum.
