Learning and Engagement Manager – Gallery Renewal

Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.

The Learning and Engagement Manager, Gallery Renewal will work across key aspects of the museum’s current business within scope of the Phase One Gallery Renewal Programme, with a focus on gallery renewal and redevelopment. Reporting to the Head of Learning and Community Participation, this is an amazing opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute direction and advice on learning and engagement during the development of new galleries and to act as an advocate for the delivery of consistent, high quality learning experiences.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in public programme and/or educational leadership and management
  • Formal and informal learning expertise
  • Tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in Education, Museum Studies or other relevant fields
  • Extensive experience with complex collections-based museum projects preferred
  • Knowledgeable about contemporary learning theory and learning within a museum, or similar environment
  • Working knowledge and broad familiarity with current trends and events in popular culture, museums, and/or the education sector
  • Proactive awareness and engagement with a wide range of cultures and associated protocol and traditions within Auckland, with particular reference to the Māori Dimension (He Kōrahi Māori) and Pacific Dimension (Teu le Vā) would be advantageous
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders, dealing with individuals in a respectful, supportive and open manner
