We are seeking an enthusiastic team member with interests and skills in education, STEM or science communication to join the SparkLab team. As a SparkLab Learning Officer, in the Queensland Museum Network (QMN) you will help conceptualise, develop, implement and evaluate a range of learning programs and resources (onsite and online) for SparkLab (an interactive STEM experience at Queensland Museum). You will engage our diverse audience, including school groups, and support inquiry learning as our visitors play with interactive exhibits and are active participants in STEM programs and activities. You will highlight STEM at QMN and connect SparkLab experiences with our everyday world using real world examples.
The role description will outline the Key Responsibilities of the role. If you are interested in this job we encourage you to read the attached role description and talk to the contact officer.

Is this role right for you?

  • You will draw on your science, education or science communication understanding that may have been gained through current or completed studies, or work experience.
  • You will have had experience in delivering learning programs or science activities to children, school students or teenagers (in small or large groups) and you will have engaged with diverse audiences.
  • You will have experience in developing or contributing to the development of these learning programs or science activities.
  • You will help conceptualise, develop, implement and evaluate a range of learning programs and resources (onsite and online) for SparkLab (an interactive STEM experience at Queensland Museum).
  • You will engage our diverse audience, including school groups, and support inquiry learning as our visitors play with interactive exhibits and are active participants in STEM programs and activities in the SparkLab exhibition.

  • You will build relationships with our visitors and foster their enthusiasm and engagement with STEM.
  • You will be able to work across a 7-day roster. The team is made up of part time and casual staff and work a set two-week roster across 7 days (including weekend shifts). Most shifts are full day (9am – 5pm) with the occasional evening shifts for events and functions. There are also occasional extra shifts in addition to your set rostered shifts.

Employment eligibility: All QMN staff (and prospective employees) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a valid medical exemption in line with Queensland Government health measures. Proof of vaccination will be required to attend an on-site interview and to commence employment with Queensland Museum.
