Auckland Museum is a much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibitions, events and educational programmes.

This is an exceptional opportunity; We are currently seeking two part time learning specialists on a fixed term basis through to December 2019, each working 3 days per week (0.6 FTE).  You will bring learning technologies expertise and be able to deliver innovative, engaging, and relevant learning experiences for diverse audiences onsite, online, and beyond our walls. You must be a qualified teacher, enjoy working with students of all ages and have experience in supporting fellow educators to integrate technology in to their own classrooms.

You will need to be flexible, amiable, demonstrate self-initiative, foster good time management skills and have an open mind. Your creative can-do attitude will be valued by the Museum whanau and our visitors.

A varied and interesting position, working with the Learning Innovation Specialist you will utilise your team teaching skills to inspire students across all subjects and year levels. Preferably you will have deep knowledge and experience in matauranga Māori, Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, EdTech as and you will have experience of working with Kura.

Key accountabilities include;

  • The development and delivery of best practice GLAM sector learning programmes ensuring excellence and innovation.
  • Ensuring the Māori Dimension (He Korahi Māori) and Pacific Dimension (Teu le Vā) are embedded into education programmes.
  • Developing high-quality and innovative digital offers including learning resources and identifying and staying on top of trends in digital learning across a range of settings (in schools, in homes, in museums).
  • Working with other museum staff to develop and market the museum learning programme;
  • Representing and promoting the museum on external educational bodies in order to establish a network of useful and productive partnerships.

To be successful in this role, you will have;

  • A minimum of two to three years’ experience in the education sector.
  • A degree in education, museum studies, or related speciality.
  • A strong passion for learning with a relevant tertiary or teaching qualification or equivalent work experience in New Zealand Ministry of Education Schools (Year 1-13).
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver engaging, inspirational learning programmes and resources for all types of visitors that will meet their learning needs and support effective teaching and learning.
  • Proven experience in delivering teacher professional development.
  • Proven experience using the Universal Design for Learning framework when developing learning programmes.
  • Superb communication skills with the ability to walk into a room and inspire with your confidence and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the NZ Curriculum, Te Whariki Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Matauranga Maori and/or contemporary learning theory with the ability to translate to a museum environment.
  • Proven experience of embedding Māori tikanga and Pacific dimensions into education programming.
  • A high level of competency in te reo Māori.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment.

This vacancy is preferably for two part time roles however a full time opportunity may be considered.
