Job Description
The Librarian position provides library services to museum staff and manages the collections of the museum library.
Duties of the position include
- Manages library and special collections across all sites
- Catalogues, classifies and indexes the collections
- Plans, develops and implements relevant policies and services
- Manages the departmental resources effectively and provides strategic budget advice to line manager
- Manages exchanges and loans of materials between libraries
- Manages and maintains access to relevant electronic resources, library website and databases
Conditions
This is a full time permanent vacancy. Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants for this position may be considered for ‘similar’ vacancies within the Culture and Arts Portfolio and/or the wider public sector which arise within a reasonable period of time. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Future vacancies may be considered.
A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department’s Police Record Screening Policy.
You must have a degree or higher level qualification in librarianship to be considered for this position. All overseas qualifications must have been assessed for Australian equivalency.

Essential
- A degree or higher-level qualification in librarianship.
- Demonstrated ability to identify client needs and expectations and provide training within a flexible and responsive service.
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team with a positive approach to continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated analytical and organisational skills at high level.
- Demonstrated experience in library resource management including cataloguing, abstracting and indexing.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, problem solving, liaison and negotiation.
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience in Special Library management
- Knowledge of FIRSTS Library Management System
