MAGNT awarded at Sonarr Awards

MAGNT awarded at Sonarr Awards, October 2026

MAGNT’s Cyclone Tracy soundscape has taken out the top honour at the inaugural Sonarr AU Awards in Sydney.

The work created by Caddie Brain at MAGNT in 2024 won the Sound Design and Atmosphere category, was the overall winner of the SOUND Pillar and also won SONARR of the Year for best audio work in Australia, across the 34 categories.

The soundscape draws on 22 new oral history interviews with people who experienced Cyclone Tracy, many sharing their stories of that night for the very first time and plays on permanent loop in MAGNT’s Cyclone Tracy exhibition. It was also broadcast nationally on ABC on the 50th anniversary of the cyclone.

Congratulations to Caddie Brain and everyone involved in bringing these important stories to life.

This recognition celebrates the power of sound in preserving and honouring these deeply personal stories and bringing them to life for future generations.
