Sovereign Hill is internationally recognised as Australia’s foremost outdoor museum. The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for-profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill outdoor museum, the Gold Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool.

The Maintenance Officer works in the Services and Maintenance Department of the Engineering portfolio.  The Services and Maintenance Department is responsible for all break-down and programmed maintenance across all the above-mentioned sites.

The Maintenance Officer is responsible for assisting the Maintenance Team Leader with the maintenance of buildings, landscaping and renovation works across these sites in line with Australian Standards and Codes of Practice, ensuring all works are carried out with minimal disruption to the daily operation of the Outdoor Museum so as not to interfere significantly with the visitors’ experiences.

Major duties included:

  • Respond to Maintenance needs across all sites as directed by the Maintenance Team Leader
  • Competently use hand tools, electrical and mechanical tools and equipment as required
  • Co-ordinate and assist contractors on site as directed by Maintenance Team Leader
  • Undertake Bush carpentry (maintenance and construction)
  • Follow Hard Cat job cards and sign works off when satisfactorily completed
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of consumables across the Sovereign Hill Museums site and
  • Perform carpentry duties as required

Successful applicant will need to demonstrate:

  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Initiative and problem-solving skills whilst being able to meet deadlines
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to understand and work from plans
  • Demonstrated experience sourcing materials required to complete maintenance repairs and projects
  • Proficient in the use of all building power and hand tools as well as workshop machinery
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • Sense of maturity and responsibility to deal with all facets of the general public
