Major International Museum Conference in Sydney Nov. 2014

Planning is underway for Sydney to host the international Museum Communications Conference in November this year.  Communicating the Museum, the world’s leading arts communications conference, is moving to Australia in 2014, taking place at major museums around Sydney and Melbourne from 4 to 12 November 2014.  The one week conference and events program promises a cutting-edge lineup of museum innovators and communications specialists from leading museums across Australia, the Asia Pacific and around the world.

Communicating the Museum (CTM) was founded in 2000 by Corinne Estrada, CEO of communications agency Agenda in Paris and the Victoria and Albert Museum Director of Public Affairs and Programming, Damien Whitmore.  Their vision was to bring together the best arts professionals to provide a global platform for networking and debate.  It provides an unprecedented opportunity in Australia for museum communication professionals to meet with their international peers, to exchange ideas and to be updated on current trends.

As well as museum experts, the program will include high profile leaders in technology, business, and branding to also provide a wider perspective on communications trends in non-arts arenas.  The working conference runs over 5 days in Sydney from 4 to 8 November 2014 while an optional extension will include an exclusive tour of select galleries and cultural institutions in Melbourne from 9 to 12 November.

Having been held over the last 13 years in Europe and America, this is the first time the conference has been staged in the Southern Hemisphere.  It will be presented in partnership with the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and CAMD is currently planning to hold its Annual General Meeting in Sydney alongside the events in order to allow members to take advantage of this opportunity to engage with their international peers.
