Duties
The Australian War Memorial combines a shrine, a world-class museum, and an extensive archive. The Memorial’s purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war or on operational service and those who have served our nation in times of conflict. Its mission is leading remembrance and understanding of Australia’s wartime experience.
Under limited direction, the Manager Buildings is responsible for detailed management of the Memorial facility. The work involves: development of the facility; management and administration of facility related contracts and projects; management of the Mailroom and development and implementation of a range of facility policies and procedures; and management of energy efficiency programs.
Notes:
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline will be an advantage.
Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
Core Responsibilities
- Under limited direction provide strategic management of all Memorial buildings including the detailed management of facilities maintenance contracts and development of related tender documentation, contracts, schedules, budgets, plans, policies and procedures.
- Development and management of Facilities Maintenance contract including budget, procurement and compliance management
- Development of the lifecycle management plan for AWM facility assets.
- Manage projects and contractors for the development and maintenance of Memorial buildings, grounds and facilities, including heritage significant projects and works.
- Management of technically complex, sensitive and high value projects including new building construction requiring intense internal and external stakeholder engagement.
- Manage the delivery of the Memorial’s Buildings and Exhibition Maintenance System.
- Management of area workloads and allocation of staff work.
- Prioritisation of work to address WHS and publically sensitive works.
- Exercise financial and administrative delegations and functions including deputising for the Head of Buildings and Services.
- Management of budgets including release of purchase orders and approval of expenditure for the Section
- Overview of section contracts and supervision of staff ensuring financial compliance
- Prepare policy papers, reports, ministerial submissions, and correspondence.
- Development of AWM policy and procedures including confined Spaces, working at heights, fire panel isolation procedures etc involving multiple stake holders.
- Preparation of ministerial briefs for priority projects and key AWM contracts such as Facility Maintenance and Cleaning.
- Coordinate delivery of workplace health and safety processes including contractor site induction, safe work method statement review and supervision, and safe handling and movement of a wide range of objects and equipment.
