Job Description

Duties

To manage all aspects of the museum’s events, festivals, filming and third party supplier arrangements involved with venue hire, including proactive and reactive sales, relationship development, account management, marketing and member events. Oversee the food and beverage for the museum across retail outlets as well as all catering managed through the onsite contract caterer/s.

Grow the museum’s venues business (corporate and private events and commercial filming) over the next three years (while the Sydney Convention Centre is in development) particularly from the Sydney market, in line with market conditions. Ensure profitable events, profitable venues or sound commercial partnerships that drive venues business, festivals and events, strategic museum partnerships and commercial filming opportunities as well as member events integrated with the public programs.

Promote the museum as a unique, premium and cultural venue; including proactive and reactive sales, marketing, financial management, reporting, budgeting, cost benefit analysis and accounting practices in relation to commercial events management.

Manage the venues and events teams including the Business Development Manager, Operations Manager, Sales Officer, Events Coordinators, Events & Programs Manager and oversee event supervisors.

Manage and develop strategic supplier partnerships (onsite caterer, audio visual operators and onsite partners such as Sydney by Sail and Sydney Heritage Fleet), that facilitate venues business and exceptional client and delegate venue experiences.

Ensure sponsor events, festivals and museum programs are managed within budget and revenue is maximised while member, foundation or other museum events or program’s use of commercial venues is in line with yield management objectives or other museum performance indicators.

Possess a high level of oral and written communication skills for reporting purposes and the ability to handle efficiently all client and visitor enquiries and deliver events that secure repeat venues business.

The role should have an in-depth knowledge of the Sydney commercial events, incentive and filming market with the ability to bring new clients to the museum.

Eligibility

This is an ongoing full-time position which is open to all Australian citizens.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria. Applications that do not address the selection criteria will not be considered for short listing by the Selection Committee. As part of the selection process the selection committee may invite candidates to undertake psychometric test, you should advise the selection committee if you have any special needs. Psychometric tests may be used as the initial short-listing test or later in the selection process. Some tests are very short while others may take one or more hours.
