Duties
As a national museum, ANMM’s mission is to lead the promotion and conservation of Australia’s maritime heritage and culture and make its collections, educational content, research and products available as widely as possible within and beyond Australia.
ANMM’s ambition is to expand its digital capability and deliver smart, innovative, digital experiences across all areas of the museum – collections access, education programs, gallery-floor, commercial transactions, brand and marketing, audience research and in corporate and operational areas.
The key purpose of this role is to lead the digital team to achieve this ambition and use digital technology to give people an innovative, user friendly and creative digital experience across all interaction points with ANMM. This includes “visitor experience” interactions via all commercial and educational areas of the ANMM website and digital programs and onsite visitations to ANMM’s exhibitions, events and venues.
Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications, this role will lead the Digital Experience team and work closely with others in the Marketing and Communications unit and across the Museum. The Digital team will play an integral role in the development and implementation of visitor facing and back-end digital solutions and will collaborate with and work across all ANMM Divisions and Business Units to deliver effective and fit for purpose digital solutions.
Key projects will include website management and the alignment of digital content and product to support the implementation of ANMM’s Brand strategy; future ANMM product development and visitor experience initiatives using interactive and emerging new technology and smart, end to end online commercial and operational transactions and business processes. Recent project successes in collections access and gamification will be built upon and new collaborations explored, especially in the education and citizen science spaces.
The Manager of Digital Experience will be a key influencer across the organisation to increase digital awareness, engagement and capability and will build networks across the national/state cultural institutions, with partners such as google, universities and research organisations and other leading edge technology organisations. It is essential that the occupant of this role has for a passion for, and knowledge of, new technology, and a pragmatic understanding of how to implement sustainable and cost-effective digital innovation that optimises visitor experiences and delivers a positive return on investment.
