Museum Victoria is seeking a skilled Manager, History & Technology Collections to provide a high level of collection management expertise in relation to the History & Technology collections, and thereby to enhance Museum Victoria’s reputation as a leader in researching, collecting and exhibiting the museum’s history, cultural and technology collections.

About the position:

The position is accountable for undertaking the management and developing the strategic directions for the management of the History & Technology collections, so that the Museum can preserve its collections, register and document the collections, ensure their effective storage and make them accessible, both internally and online. The position is accountable for maintaining industry-best skills and standards within the department and ensuring that Museum Victoria Preparation are leaders in this field.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Experience in the management of history and cultural collections, especially in the development and application of collection management databases.
  2. Experience in developing and leading collection management projects.
  3. Demonstrated skills in managing people and teams and in working collaboratively across departments in a networked organisation.
  4. Experience in the identification and management of occupational health and safety in the context of museum collections and collection management work.
  5. Demonstrated ability to plan strategically, formulate business plans and budgets and manage resources.
  6. Excellent communication skills which have been successfully used to engage with key stakeholder groups, professional networks, and internal work groups.
  7. The incumbent must be willing to undergo a National Police Records Check and be assessed as suitable for employment
