Responsibilities of the position
The Manager Learning Services leads and manages the Museum’s Learning Services team and associated programs within the Learning Services and Community Outreach section. These programs range from facilitated school visits activities and family programming to the creation of curriculum and online family resources, including the production of digital learning resources. The position is also responsible for establishing partnerships with education-related organisations, where appropriate, and coordinating teacher professional development initiatives. The Manager Learning Services will work closely with the Manager Community Outreach to ensure that lifelong learning opportunities are maximized for a range of key audiences.
Specifically the role is responsible for:
- leading and managing a team of learning services staff to create exciting and distinctive curriculum relevant learning opportunities for students visiting the Museum related to the Museum’s exhibitions and collections.
- leading and managing a team of learning services staff to produce innovative curriculum relevant education outreach programs and projects in the context of an emerging Australian Curriculum and digital learning.
- leading and managing a team of learning services staff to devise and implement a program of professional learning activities for teachers and pre service teachers.
- leading and managing a team of family programming staff to devise, deliver and evaluate school holiday, online, in-gallery and festival programs to engage family audiences.
- developing the skills and capabilities of learning services staff and ensuring sufficient supervision, instruction and equipment to enable staff to perform their duties safely.
- managing the budget and staff resources related to education.
Selection criteria
Applicants must respond to each of the following selection criteria in their application:
- Demonstrated experience and capacity to lead and manage a team of educators and volunteers to produce and deliver a range of high quality programs for visiting children’s groups to the Museum.
- Demonstrated experience and capacity to produce innovative curriculum relevant education outreach programs and projects in the context of an emerging Australian Curriculum and digital learning.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the latest educational theories and practices preferable as they relate to museum education and family participation and a proven capacity to implement such theories and practices where appropriate.
- Excellent project management skills in relation to learning programs and projects, preferably in a museum context.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to communicate with skill and confidence to a range of clients, including teachers, students, pre-service teachers, university lecturers, education bureaucrats and education providers.
- Demonstrated capacity to effectively manage a diverse team.
