The Manager Mine Guides, Aura and Evening is responsible for the development, co-ordination, implementation and management of the operational systems for Mine and Steam Operations, Tour Guide and Evening activities that are profitable and in compliance with the Tourist Mine Authority whilst ensuring that our visitors are safely entertained and informed.
Major responsibilities and duties include (but not limited to):
- Developing, maintaining and reviewing a range of systems to manage operations and any associated risk including policies and procedures in full compliance with the requirements of the Tourist Mine Authorit
- Oversee the day to day operations of the Mine Department, ensuring the opening and closing of the mine is conducted to standard and in line with SOPs paying particular attention to gaining clearance from Steam Operations Department for operating trams, checklists are completed and fire detection systems are active
- Manage the Quartz Mine
- Coordinate the daily activities of Tour Guides, ensuring energy is focused on delivering excellence in the areas of customer service, sales and interpretation
- Liaise with the Museum Training & Interpretive Quality Lead to further develop the thematic interpretation with mine guides and tour guides and encourage this philosophy
- Develop and/or co-ordinate individual programs for specialised tours and packages
- Manage an AURA customer service quality assurance program
- Liaise with stakeholders to ensure AURA technical issues are addresses by the appropriate staff in a timely manner and assist with planning of maintenance (including annual shutdown periods) as required
To be considered for this role, applicants need to demonstrate:
- Experience in a management or supervisory role in a similar/operational role
- Excellent negotiation, written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills including the proficient use of Microsoft Office
- Experience in writing and delivering workplace training and assessment
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to continuous improvement
- Ability to work flexible hours to provide information and training across a range of shifts
- Experience managing and rostering staff
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of mining history and processes
- Sound knowledge and understanding of OH&S Regulations is essential whilst a sound knowledge of mining regulations would be preferred but not essential
Qualifications and Clearances
- A Certificate or Diploma in OHS, Mining, Front Line Management, Business Management and/or Tourism is preferred but not essential
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate
Special considerations
- The incumbent must feel comfortable training in and working underground and guiding groups of up to 33 people for approx. 40 minutes underground
- Some job tasks require the employee to safely negotiate uneven, stepped, dimly light and some semi-confined areas sections of the above and below ground environment
- A pre-employment medical is required for this position
