Manager, Preparation

Museum Victoria is seeking a skilled Manager for our Preparation section to provide leadership, highly effective management and expert skills in all preparation disciplines.

Supporting our exhibition, collection, research and operational needs, the role is crucial in maintaining a highly skilled team and providing the wide range of services needed of a world class museum. ABOUT THE POSITION:

The position is accountable for ensuring the safe, effective and efficient delivery of complex and diverse Preparation services for all museum stakeholders including exhibitions, programs and research.

The position is accountable for maintaining industry-best skills and standards within the department and ensuring that Museum Victoria Preparation are leaders in this field.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Extensive experience in and expert knowledge of a wide range of preparation techniques and their application in a museum and research environment.
  2. Demonstrated ability in leadership, operational management, communications and staff development embodying a constructive style with an achievement and humanistic focus.
  3. An excellent knowledge of natural sciences and an ability to undertake and direct original research.
  4. Highly developed scientific, technical and creative skills and an ability to innovate.
  5. Demonstrated experience in managing Occupational Health and Safety in the context of preparation activities, best practice and industry standards.
  6. Demonstrated experience in initiating, leading and participating in projects.
  7. Communication and interpersonal skills of a high order, including the ability to liaise with staff, contractors and external stakeholders and able to negotiate and resolve conflicts in a positive manner.
  8. The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).

OTHER INFORMATION

This is a full-time, ongoing position. The salary on offer is $86,493+ 9.5% superannuation.
