Housed in one of Australia’s most prominent national heritage-listed buildings, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House seeks to provide a range of innovative exhibitions, tours, interpretation, education programs and public activities that will inspire and challenge visitors to explore democracy from its ancient roots to the present day and possible futures.

The Manager, Research and Collection Development will play a key role in the management team supporting the Head, Exhibitions, Research and Learning and will be required to provide high level research activities and assurance of content prepared by other sections.  The position holder will also manage development and application of MoAD’s editorial policies to ensure that content prepared by all areas of MoAD is accurate, balanced and reflects MoAD’s values and priorities.

DUTIES:

  • Provide research, writing and other scholarly services for onsite, online and outreach programs, working in close collaboration with all sections of the museum to provide content to support the museum’s strategic goals.
  • Contribute to the management of the museum collection, including managing the acquisition of items through donations or sale, completing acquisition proposals, participating in Acquisitions Committee meetings, and contributing to the de-accessioning process of collection items.
  • Promote the museum through a diverse range of activities such as research and writing on Australian political and parliamentary history and the history of democracy, delivering conference papers, historical talks and specialist tours of the museum, answering complex historical enquiries and representing the museum in a range of public and specialist forums, including the media.
  • Manage, support, coordinate, implement or review content as needed including oversight of staff development for exhibition, programs and events.
